Dell Marking Systems receives award for work on space shuttle
ATK Thiokol awarded recognition for their contribution to the Space Shuttle Program in a special presentation to Dell Marking Systems of Ferndale Michigan.
The Space Shuttle program's Reusable Solid Rocket Motor (RSRM) is the largest solid rocket motor ever flown and the first designed for reuse. Its integrity is ensured by the attention to quality and performance during production, inspection, transportation, and storage of motor components. The possibility of contamination entering the RSRM process is always a concern.
One source of contamination is paint flakes / chips. Extensive testing by ATK Thiokol determined that Dell Marking Systems provided a superior performance product for the application when compared to other paints and inks. They therefore, are used in the RSRM manufacturing process o identify the weight check date of equipment used to handle RSRM flight hardware. Test criteria included exposure to moisture, high and low temperatures, scuffing resistivity flaking / chipping etc.
Jeff Champneys, Project Manager of RSRM Materials, ATK Thiokol, Inc. said “ We subjected Dell inks to every abuse we could think of.”
Standard Dell Marking Ink colors are: yellow, red, green, blue, and white. Dell provides complete marking system design and build services and formulates workplace safe, low VOC pigmented and non-pigmented inks. Dell offers a free part/print evaluation service.

News Release:
Dell Micro-Mini Marker is the smallest, lightest, low pressure spray marker in the industry.
The Dell DS-10 low pressure spray marker is available from Dell Marking Systems of Ferndale Michigan. The Micro-Mini Marker is
a major innovation in marking technology. It is designed for positioning where closely spaced spot patterns are required and/ or where space is limited. DS-10 can be integrated into flexible automation systems, programmable robots, or stacked in multiples.
Part identification is the ultimate quality control / recall prevention solution. Mark the "approved parts". Any unmarked part becomes suspect and can be intercepted immediately. Marking can identify critical characteristics such as to classify tolerences or size variations of parts, sub-assemblies and assemblies during the manufacturing process. Independent atomizing air and extremely quick response time lends to the 3'16" mimimum spot size. Dell gravity or pressurized feed systems have been developed to supply marking inks to the DS-10, enabling the DS-10 to be mounted at any attitude.
Dell pigmented and non-pigmented inks have been formulated, manufactured, and tested primarily for this marker. Complete, low maintenance, Dell systems are available for any manufacturing application. For additional information contact:
